Trinidad and Tobago: a Birder’s Caribbean Paradise!

Just off Venezuela’s coast, Trinidad and Tobago blend Caribbean charm and South American biodiversity. Trinidad, close to South America, features a more northern bird diversity, while Tobago has distinct West Indian species. Our tour starts at Trinidad’s Asa Wright Nature Centre for hummingbirds and honeycreepers, then explores the Northern Range, Wallerfield, Caroni Swamp for Scarlet Ibis, and Nariva Swamp. On Tobago, we’ll bird the Main Ridge Forest and visit Little Tobago’s seabird colonies, all while enjoying the lush gardens and beaches of Blue Waters Inn.

This 8-day tour will take us across these twin islands, from the rich mangroves of Trinidad to the stunning coral reefs of Tobago. Expect dazzling birdlife, lush forests, and pristine beaches while enjoying relaxed Caribbean hospitality. We’ll explore a mix of habitats, encountering hummingbirds, tanagers, and regional specialties that make this destination unforgettable for birders.

Weather and climate

In June, you can expect warm, tropical weather with daytime temperatures ranging from 80°F to 88°F (27°C-31°C). June falls within the start of the wet season, so brief but intense rain showers are common, especially in the afternoons and evenings. Humidity is high, particularly in rainforest and swamp areas, but coastal breezes help keep things more comfortable. Be prepared for a mix of sunshine and rain, with evenings typically cooler around 70°F (21°C).
