The boundary between the Peruvian Amazon and the Andes is the most biodiverse place on Earth and home to some of the most emblematic wildlife of the Americas. Manu National Park and Tambopata National Reserve are home to a bewilderingly large number of plants and animals. Recent estimates suggest this region hosts 3,000 plant species, 230 reptile and amphibian species, 1000 bird species, 159 mammal species, and 1,300 butterfly species!
Led by experienced naturalists and expert local guides, our tour will offer a rare opportunity to dive deep into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. Our journey begins high in the Andean city of Cusco before traversing the famous Manu Road as we descend into the Amazon Basin. We will spend the bulk of our time along the Madre de Dios and Río Tambopata exploring the staggering biodiversity of the massive nature reserves in this region. We will focus on viewing and photographing some of the most beautiful and iconic species found here: the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, several species of colorful macaws, and the majestic Jaguar. Along the way, we will seek out and spend time with a wide array of other bird and wildlife species.

Highlight and Target wildlife
- We will seek out the region’s stunning macaw species, with a chance to see Scarlet, Red-and-Green, Blue-and-yellow, Chestnut-fronted, and Blue-headed Macaws.
- Our group will spend time with leks of the iconic and incredible Andean Cock-of-the Rock.
- We will encounter hundreds of other Amazonian bird species, including highlights like Hoatzin, Golden-headed Quetzal, Blue-banded Toucanet, and Booted Raquettail.
- Although they are elusive, we will seek out this region’s incredible mammal species, with possibilities including Jaguar, Spectacled Bear, Woolly Monkey, Capybara, and much more.

Expect hot, humid weather as we explore this portion of Peru. Daytime temperatures can reach 95°F/35°C. As October is the tail-end of the dry season, some rainfall is expected.
