Isla Mujeres, Mexico: Whale Sharks!

The iconic Whale Shark–reaching up to 65 feet long and weighing an astonishing 75,000 pounds–is one of the most beautiful and graceful giants of the ocean. Each year, these massive fish migrate north of Mexico’s Isla Mujeres to take advantage of food-rich waters created by the boundary of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. This phenomenon provides us with an amazing opportunity to witness congregations of these unbelievable animals. At the same time, these waters teem with giant Manta Rays, Mobula Rays, sea turtles, dolphins, and schools of tropical fish.

On each day of our tour, a private boat will take us from Isla Mujeres into the midst of this natural spectacle. Snorkeling will afford an unforgettable up-close experience with these astonishing creatures while maintaining a hands-off and respectable approach. Whale Sharks and rays commonly come within meters of snorkelers, offering unparalleled photographic and observation opportunities with these beautiful and gentle animals. The easy, laid-back nature of this unique tour will provide ample opportunity to explore the vibrant culture of Isla Mujeres in between our daily nautical excursions.
