KAZIRANGA: INDIAN ONE-HORNED RHINOS

Pre-tour Extension to Ultimate Tiger Experience

Kaziranga National Park, located  in the Indian state of Assam, spans 430 sq. km of grasslands interspersed with evergreen forests, floodplains, shallow lakes, and reedbeds. The park is bordered by the mighty Brahmaputra River to the north and the Karbi-Anglong hills in the south. On a clear day, the snowy cap of Mt. Kangchenjunga–the third highest mountain in the world and the highest peak in India–is visible from within the national park..

Kaziranga National Park is teeming with wildlife–the unique combination of diverse habitats providing a home for numerous mammals, birds, and reptiles found only in the Himalayan foothills and rainforests of southern Asia. This unique character has earned the park the designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for being a biodiversity hotspot. Kaziranga is, by far, the best place in the world to observe and photography  our main target: the Greater One-horned Rhinoceros, also known as the Indian Rhinoceros. On this tour-extension safari, we may encounter as many as 30-40 individuals of these prehistoric-looking beasts. In addition, we will likely find herds of wild Indian Elephants, Water Buffalo, and numerous other wildlife and bird species.
