Honduras Bird Diversity: 12 Nights
The Spectacular Bird Diversity of Honduras
Honduras is a birdwatcher’s paradise, boasting an impressive avian diversity across its breathtaking landscapes. With over 760 species recorded, including the country’s only endemic, the Honduran Emerald, this 13-day birding tour is perfect for anyone seeking to immerse themselves in the stunning natural beauty of Central America. From tropical rainforests to the Caribbean coast, we’ll explore Honduras’ premier birding hotspots, offering both new and seasoned birders unparalleled opportunities to experience the country’s vibrant birdlife.
We begin in the rain forests of Lake Yojoa, and Cerro Azul, ascending to the cloud forests of Santa Barbara National Park (including an area known for the country’s endemic Honduran Emerald). From there, we ascend 2,000 meters to the pine-oak and cloud forests of Opatroro Reserve and La Tigra National Park, before heading northwest for the pristine and rare habitats of La Muralla; a remote, virtual island of transitional tropical habitats, combining pine-oak, broadleaf, and pine forests in one, providing a home for a rich mix of bird species.
Nearly 90% of Honduras’ 770+ bird species have been recorded along this route and we generally see at least half. We’ll search for key species while enjoying excellent accommodations, ensuring both comfort and prime birding access. Don’t miss the opportunity to embark on a birding adventure of a lifetime in the stunning landscapes of this amazing country!
