PHOTOGRAPHY TARGETS AND HIGHLIGHTS

EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS

  • We will travel by boat along the Tarcoles River in hopes of up-close encounters with herons, egrets, spoonbills, several species of kingfishers, Mangrove Vireo, and the endemic Mangrove Hummingbird.

  • Night walks will give us a chance to see nocturnal bird species such as owls and nightjars as well as abundant reptiles and amphibians. 

  • Several fruit feeders will offer some of the best photography opportunities possible of Costa Rica’s most beautiful birds, including tanagers, honeycreepers, parakeets, and toucans. Flower set-ups and feeders will be used for excellent photographic chances with dozens of hummingbird species.

  • We will explore the Talamanca highlands in search of the famous Resplendent Quetzal and high-elevation specialties and endemics.

Weather and climate

We will encounter a variety of climates as we survey the diverse landscapes Costa Rica has to offer. In tropical rainforests, we can expect hot, humid weather with temperatures above 90°F/32°C during the day. We can expect dry forests to be less humid, but with hot temperatures and intense sun. As we move to higher elevations, temperatures will drop–regularly to 50°F /10°C at night. Heavy rain should be anticipated at any point during the tour.
